Cute Puzzle

This puzzle is cute and really good for beginners. The handles are just the right size for little hands. That said, when received the puzzle had wood shavings and after just a couple of uses, the paint is starting to come off.

Learning shapes, colors, and objects! Easy to hold

Grandson just turned one, bought for first birthday gift. Fun: He loves dumping pieces over and putting them back, a favorite thing to do at his age. Educational: As he handles each one, I say the name of the object, color, or shape, depending on what I want him to learn and help him guide them into place, he gets them into place on his own now that he has had practice and after a few weeks has learned to pick up object I ask for. Not only is he learning shapes and colors but also has learned vocabulary, and names for objects, sun *orange* (circle), *blue* (triangle), tree *green* (oval), door *red* (rectangle), window *yellow* (square), and house, flowers, roof, and chimney. With him and other children and grandchildren, I start with names of objects, then taught the names of shapes, then colors. You can also use the pieces at about age three to trace the shapes, which helps with dexterity and drawing, using a washable marker, any marks on the puzzle are easily washed off, so it makes an ideal toy to share between different age groups. This is a unique toy, in that it is several educational toys in one. By being a puzzle, it is a building block for later learning to read. Children who are good at puzzles are also good readers because both take pieces and put them together to "build" something. Durability: Melissa and Doug's wooden puzzles that I've owned since my first grandchild, are still like new. They are non-toxic and safe. Affordability: Being able to use it for so many things means I can use this one item to do the job of a shape sorter, book, and puzzle. Can be used by multiple age groups: Older toddlers can trace pieces: Having the large handles makes it easier for them to hold while tracing.
